Thank you @littlebrownspark and @netgalley for my advanced eCopy of this fantastic book by one of my favorite authors, @drmarkhyman。 My thoughts are my own。“Learn how to get biologically YOUNGER while growing physically OLDER!”I have been reading the work of Dr。 Mark Hyman for years, so I was very excited to get early access to this book。 Dr。 Hyman has a great way of explaining scientific/medical processes in a way that the reader without a medical degree can easily understand。 This well-written Thank you @littlebrownspark and @netgalley for my advanced eCopy of this fantastic book by one of my favorite authors, @drmarkhyman。 My thoughts are my own。“Learn how to get biologically YOUNGER while growing physically OLDER!”I have been reading the work of Dr。 Mark Hyman for years, so I was very excited to get early access to this book。 Dr。 Hyman has a great way of explaining scientific/medical processes in a way that the reader without a medical degree can easily understand。 This well-written and well-researched book is divided in three parts。 In the first part, Dr。 Hyman explains “How and Why We Age”。 Yes, some paragraphs may take a second reading as you absorb what he is explaining, but I believe the explanation is critical to understanding the WHY of the program! (And, the explanation is what ultimately motivates me to make changes in my eating, movement, and lifestyle habits!) Dr。 Hyman explains the breakdown of systems in our body causing chronic disease and inflammation。 He discusses obesity and lack of sleep, as well as other issues。 Before you get overwhelmed with what may already be wrong with your body, in Part 2, Dr。 Hyman discusses “Optimizing Your Health Span and Life Span”。 He explains how you can begin to eat, move, and improve your lifestyle in order to balance your biological systems and activate your repair systems。In Part 3, Dr。 Hyman explains the Forever Young program。 Dr。 Hyman calls this is your step-by-step guide to “diagnose the imbalances in your system and to implement a radical change in your health。” (p。 163) Dr。 Hyman discusses foods, the best diet, supplements, and more。 Your daily habits influence how you age and with this program you can begin today to take steps to reverse this。I am implementing these changes in my life today!I can’t say enough how much I enjoyed this book and truly plan to implement changes in my daily habits。This book is out now! 。。。more

Thank you to Net galley and Little, Brown spark for an ARC of this book!I really enjoyed this book (as well as several of Dr。 Hyman’s other books + his podcast)。 I thought this had a great balance of explaining the science in a way that was easy to understand/engaging and keeping it actionable。 This book is great for someone who wants to learn to optimize their health and extend their health span (not just life span!)。 He explains the how and the way, plus gives checklist-esque strategies and to Thank you to Net galley and Little, Brown spark for an ARC of this book!I really enjoyed this book (as well as several of Dr。 Hyman’s other books + his podcast)。 I thought this had a great balance of explaining the science in a way that was easy to understand/engaging and keeping it actionable。 This book is great for someone who wants to learn to optimize their health and extend their health span (not just life span!)。 He explains the how and the way, plus gives checklist-esque strategies and to-dos to achieve “optimal” health。 I also enjoyed how he put it all together and shared his OWN health practices as an example of how it can all be combined into a lifestyle。 。。。more

Young Forever by Dr。 Mark HymanPub date - Feb 24, 2023I have followed Dr。 Hyman (@drmarkhyman) for a while and have read several of his previous books。 Ultrametabolism and his cookbook Food: What the Heck Should I Cook? have been useful and informative to me。 With thanks to NetGalley and Little, Brown & Co I was fortunate to receive an advanced copy of his newest book, Young Forever。Through decades of research and successful implementation through his medical practice, Dr。 Hyman has developed a Young Forever by Dr。 Mark HymanPub date - Feb 24, 2023I have followed Dr。 Hyman (@drmarkhyman) for a while and have read several of his previous books。 Ultrametabolism and his cookbook Food: What the Heck Should I Cook? have been useful and informative to me。 With thanks to NetGalley and Little, Brown & Co I was fortunate to receive an advanced copy of his newest book, Young Forever。Through decades of research and successful implementation through his medical practice, Dr。 Hyman has developed a plan to extend lifespan and health span, to avoid premature death and end-of-life suffering due to preventable and reversible diseases。 He deep-dives into the science of anti-aging in part 1, explains the 7 hallmarks of aging in part 2, then lays out a longevity plan in part 3。I found this book fascinating。 I will definitely buy the hard copy when it releases in a few weeks and use it as a blueprint for health and wellness。 I love that he offers a whole range of treatments, from the most basic (eat a diet rich in vegetables and healthy fats and meats, exercise, get good sleep) to the most futuristic (ozone therapy and blood cycling?!) And yes, according to him, all of the cold plunges and red light therapy we’ve seen all over the socials really do provide some benefits!😜I definitely recommend checking this out when it hits shelves in a few weeks。 You’ll go down a rabbit hole of modern anti-aging theory, then hop in the car for a Whole Foods run! 。。。more

I've read books by Dr Hyman and other doctors about health and diets over the years, attempting to stay abreast of the latest research。 I'll admit to being rather baffled at times because everyone who writes one of these books either stands for the keto diet, the vegan diet, whole food plant based or most notably these days, the Mediterranean diet。 All of these plans offer case studies that show they work to improve health。 Meanwhile, there's always some report about the 100 plus year-old who ha I've read books by Dr Hyman and other doctors about health and diets over the years, attempting to stay abreast of the latest research。 I'll admit to being rather baffled at times because everyone who writes one of these books either stands for the keto diet, the vegan diet, whole food plant based or most notably these days, the Mediterranean diet。 All of these plans offer case studies that show they work to improve health。 Meanwhile, there's always some report about the 100 plus year-old who has gotten to that age with breakfasts of fatty foods and daily cigarette smoking On the other hand, we have the people of the same age who never touch meat and live on fruits and vegetables。 。I can't say I really know what the answer is; however this book offers some of the latest studies into healthy living, and there are are some good take aways。。 So if you are looking for more information, this is another good choice。 。。。more

More reviews (and no fluff) on the blog http://surrealtalvi。wordpress。com/Those who have read his other books knows that he expounds a diet of meats and vegetables while reducing sugar and starches (e。g。, breads)。 You'll find that component in here but there really isn't a straightforward program to follow。 He'll suggest everything from anal oxygen injections to fasting; some suggestions have scientific research to back them but I feel like a lot more were either subjective or conjectures, More reviews (and no fluff) on the blog http://surrealtalvi。wordpress。com/Those who have read his other books knows that he expounds a diet of meats and vegetables while reducing sugar and starches (e。g。, breads)。 You'll find that component in here but there really isn't a straightforward program to follow。 He'll suggest everything from anal oxygen injections to fasting; some suggestions have scientific research to back them but I feel like a lot more were either subjective or conjectures, without true evidence supporting them。 Readers would likely end up wasting a lot of time and money without really expanding their years。Admittedly, I had a hard time with two aspects of the book。 He notes the blue zones lived longer lives by eating animal products but that seems to contradict nearly every scientific research out there that says otherwise (even when animal products are at a much lower percentage to plants in meals)。 I don't think the author of the blue zones would agree with that assertion either。 Hyman also states several times that sugar and starches are the cause of diseases like diabetes - but the research I've seen puts the cause as fats, especially trans and saturated (e。g。, to give lab rats diabetes, you feed them a lot of animal products with saturated fat, not sugar or starches)。 So it became harder to take this book seriously when it seemed there were a lot of unfounded 'new agey' type of recommendations that didn't seem grounded in research。Also problematic is that the author sells his own products。 In that regard, this 'young forever'(TM) program relies on you buying the supplements/products in his store。 I do not doubt that he believes in the efficacy of what he sells but when an author's income relies on their special products, it feels like there is too much of a conflict of interest should newly emerging research prove foundations incorrect (the author would want to stick to selling his products and not want to admit they aren't useful (or he'd lose money))。 In a way, this book feels like a bit of fear mongering in order to create a ready clientele for his products。I am glad that he recommends eating more fiber/plants since that seems to be the best way to live longer these days。 But there are a LOT of odd/strange recommendations: you'll have to get a barrage of random and narrowly targeted tests, let's not even mention the injections (apparently, there are many ways to get oxygen into your body beyond just breathing)。 I don't feel there really is a 'program' for living longer here and that the data/research just doesn't support any clear plan an individual can take other than the usual of not smoking and eating better, move more and have a good home life。 In that regard, this book may be far too soon to really be a sound way to help add years to your life。 Reviewed from an advance reader copy provided by the publisher。 。。。more
